Teachers and schools about Site@School

"I just launched our site today after spending 2 months working on it - London, England, and I have been working hard and would like to put a link on our site to siteatschool. You have done such a great job with the software - THANK YOU."

Laura (september 2008)

"Thanks for the possibility to use your fantastic CMS. It all works very well. I'm surprised more UK schools aren't using it. with best wishes"
Peter (september 2008)
"Thank you for this tiny, but very useful CMS!  Smiley
Of course, there are some good and powerful CMS on the market (Typo 3, Joomla ...) - but none of these fit so perfectly the requirements of a (primary) school!!
What I like most is the opportunity for pupils to create and edit their own pages (and only these!) and/or to presentate their projects."

Frank (May 2008)

"I'm very excited by the new possibilities that S@S has opened up for making our website more interesting and lively."

Jude B (October 2007)

"Thank you once again for the terrific program. It's absolutely wonderful to work with! I'm extremely pleased with the software, its tools and templates you've provided the end users. The manual is outstanding and very user friendly."
Rob Beaven, Louisville, KY, www.saintmaryacademy.com (September 2007)

"The software looks brilliant by the way. I've carried out a lot of research regarding this and yours beats the rest by a mile. Well done."
John (August 2007)

"Pedagogically (and that is my background), S@S is an excellent tool for schools and the fact that the concept is so well executed technically is a real bonus."
Chris Flanagan (September 2006)

"Wow! What a great job you made for all school Webmasters, all students and teachers. You can be proud for all the great possibilities you give for anyone caring about education. Sincerely, thank you."
Red (September 2006)

"Our Center for Language Research at the University of Aizu, Japan, was looking for a content management system to replace a collection of independently created staff web pages. We needed a system that would allow staff to work collaboratively to produce a dynamic evolving and informative web site -- a system that permitted role assignment, so that various content and editing functions could be shared.
Another key criterion was that it needed to be straightforward enough so that staff would be willing to use it.
Furthermore, the system needed to facilitate communication and set an example for other departments and students.
After looking for several months, we discovered Site@School. Discussing the system implementation in detail with the S@S team has been helpful in improving our own installation. I found it relatively easy to install, and when I had problems the S@S team kindly provided assistance."

"We are working on a leaning path and Site@School is part of language acquisition. S@S is now part of the curriculum!"
Kurt Dossche, Belgium (September 2006)

"Site@school werd ons aanbevolen door andere basisscholen op Goeree Overflakkee en bevalt ook ons tot nu toe uitstekend."
(Site@School was recommended to us by other primary schools in Goeree Overflakkee and up to now we like it very much)

Menno Smits (September 2006)

"I have been working for a while now on 2 websites for our schools for special education at Schouwen-Duiveland (Zierikzee, The Netherlands).
I'm using s@s to the full satisfaction. It's wonderfully simple, easy to use by the teachers ( some of them are already working with it).
I'm now expanding this to all groups".

Ben Blok (May 2006)

"Wir haben uns aus unserem Verständnis heraus eine "Sozial Kompetente Schule" zu sein, die sich auf einem Schulentwicklungsweg befindet, für Site@School entschieden, damit alle an der Schule beteiligten Menschen sich in einem demokratischen Prozess an der Gestaltung und Wirkung der Schule nach außen einbringen können."
Manfred (February 2006)

"Just needed to say that S@S has the best documentation and follow-up support of ANY software (open source or not) I have ever seen.
My questions are usually already answered on the forums, or if not they are answered quickly when I ask.
Thank you, and great work."
pb (january 2006)

"I've been looking around for a good, yet simple system that I can use for a school to access their own site and keep it moving. I tried Mambo but it was far too complicated (I understood it, but it took time, so a teacher has no hope) when I came across this. My first thoughts were that it wasn't as easy to setup and install, but after trying it locally (PC running apache, PHP, etc) it was as simple as it needs to be. So far it's going well ... !!"

"It´s very good CMS for the basic schools. We are the first school in the Czech Republic, who use it. I recommend it".

Lukas Moravec (2005)

"We use this CMS at our school. It was very easy to install and runs without problems. There are many usefull modules for schools (e.g. like pubil-pages or a passwort protected internal part of the side)"
Jörgen (2005)

"I'm just checking in to say hello, and we here at The Christ School in Orlando, Florida, USA are celebrating the completion of our first year of S@S! With deepest thanks for Fred, Dirk, et al our website has become far more creative and far more consistent, and far "deeper" (with more pages). Our teachers love their ability to edit their own pages and add images, etc. And I love the fact that I now spend most of my webmaster time creating content instead of tweaking my HTML code.
Thanks again, and I look forward to our second (and third....) years of S@S here on our side of the Atlantic."

Kind regards,
Rich

"Hi Fred,
unbelievable. Within less than two hours you posted the solution to my problem. I tried it and it did exactly what I was asking for. Perfect! The best support I ever saw."

Thanks a lot

"I recommend S@S to any other school staff with whom I speak"
Thanks again, Rich

"Although still under development, the school team is very enthousiastic about the site, and the way they can manage it. All the credits to you guys ('n dolls) out there who are working on this tool."

Not a teacher:
It is not a school site but uses S@S nontheless. S@S was chosen for a number of reasons (I have used over 50 CMS systems in my life), most importantly being;
- Freedom in defining layout (as opposed to Nuke-alikes, which accounts for about 90% of all CMS systems)
- Use of a tree structure for pages (again; all Nuke-alikes don't have this)
- WYSIWYG editor (which is still quite uncommon in CMS's)
- Simple, logical layout of the back-end (no new "concepts" to learn).
There are a number of other trivial reasons such as it using PHP, the easy installation (getting CMS's even installed can be a nightmare) and the omission of useless features.
Naturally, since the site isn't a school-site, it doesn't use the Pupil/Teacher specific features, but they're not in the way either.

"Our childrens daycare website is maintained by people with little or no experience with websites.
By using Site@Schoolthey can maintain the site witout an intensive training.
Most other CMSs often use a rather complicated workflow to maintain content. In this case I was surprised how much they could do by themselves with juist a short explanation."

Robert (december 2006)

"Well done Fred and Co. on a great CMS - mambo gave me a huge headache. SAS so user friendly. "

I'm very satisfied with S@S:
- Truely a simple content management system
- In Dutch (and many other languages)
- Very good support (thank you, Fred Stuurman)
